msa20 and non-hp hdd support...

We have one msa20 on one channel 6404 controller, but in end of capacity.
Hp have crazy prices for hdd for this enclosure. Do I can buy 1.5TB sata drives from other manufacturers for second msa20 enclosures? Any problem?

thanks

Hi,

The controller on the MSA20 is designed to only accept HP branded hard drives.

HP's drives may be manufactured by Seagate, so you might think that a Seagate drive will work, however they need to have HP specific firmware on them.

You ask for support - why should HP support non-hp drives? Of course there is non.
Not supported does not always mean not working, buit you do this on your own risk. If your data is gone one day, I know who is the guilty ...

;-)

Hope this helps!
