problem with va7100

Have a disk that was reporting bad on front of
a va7100. Replaced the disk and the system
would not see the new disk, but could see a lot
of activity with the lights flashing. Took out
the disk and the drives looked normal again.

I am unable to run ioscan -fnCdisk, though I can run ioscan -fknCdisk. I also tried to run and fbackup which just hung. I am able to backup using tar at this point.

Wondering at this point if the system were rebooted if it will come back up.

More info required - did you export the disk before pulling it?
Is it a mirrored disk?
What os?
What VG?

Never worked on that.

But if it similar to va7400, you need to have auto format enabled. With this new drive replced will get formated.

Once formatted, you can use armdsp command to check.

Running 11.0
Va7100 - it is automatically setup to do
raid 1/raid5
Don't know what volume group it speads it out
on the array.

No I did not do an export.

Do you have auto rebuild enabled? if so just put the disk in and allow time for it to be rebuilt.

I have a va7100

put the disk back in.
go into sam, and navigate to the disk devices
double click on the controller, and you should see the status of the controller, which should tell you the drives are rebuilding. If your system is heavily loaded, it may take 8 hours or more to rebuild a 36 Gb drive, but if it is quiet, you should see the rebuild complete in about 2 hours.

Also, sometimes you need to go into commandview and select the actual disk and include it. Alot of times, the disks had information on them and will not include automatically.

Also, by default the drive needs to be formated when it is inserted. This can take up to 20minutes per drive. It needs to convert it from either 520K sectors to 512K sectors. This is normal if the drive was previously used in anything other than a VA disk array.
