query regarding Samrt Array contoller card
Recently we have purchased Proliant DL 380G4 servers. In its original BOM we have ordered for following storage controller cards:
273915-B21 Smart Array 6402/128(Dual channel with 128 MB cache)
273913-B21 256MB BBWC Upgrade for SA6400 Series controller
But the controller card that we received was:
273914-B21 Smart Array 6404/256 Quad
I would like to know whether this part code is exact replacement of above two part codes or whther we should ask for second part code with HP i.e 273913-B21 256MB BBWC Upgrade for SA6400 Series controller
Please Advice.
Regards

Re: query regarding Samrt Array contoller card
looking at the quickspecs
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11587_div/11587_div.html
it is not a direct replacement. Under "Options", there is a note:
NOTE: This is a list of supported options. Some options may be discontinued.
And only the 512MB BBWC upgrade is listed as an option. I guess 273913-B21 is no longer available. The only supported cache amounts are 128, 256 and 512MB. So I guess your supplier decided to give you a SA6400 with 256MB, and only the 6404 comes standard with 256MB. The only available options for the 6402 are 128 or 512MB, according to this information.
The 6404 is really 2 Smart Array Controllers on a single PCI-X card. One is the card itself (a 6402) and the other is the extra daughter-board attached to this card.

Stephen

Re: query regarding Samrt Array contoller card
In this particular case the SA6404 with 256MB cache is not an equivalent for SA6402 with 256MB, as the former consist in fact of two dual-channel controllers with 128MB of cache for each one.
To have the SA6402 with 2 channels & 256MB cache FOR this 2 channels only the 273915-B21 & 273913-B21 would be required (the latter is discontinued though)

Re: query regarding Samrt Array contoller card
For Smart array 6404 the total Memory will be divided into two.One for the Base Controller and other for the Expansion Module. Both the Expansion Module and the Smart Array has 64 MB onboard Memory. Therefore the available memory for both the controller and the Expansion Module in your case will be 192MB.
