"No Address Table" on Disk Array

Hello:

Power problems caused a failure of an older 12H Disk Array (Model A3516AZ) of ours. Error readout is "No Address Table". Would like to recover Array, and not reformat, but unable to find a "recover" command from main menu (was able to recover a SureStore E Disk Array 12H from the menu).
Any ideas on how to recover at this point?

Re: "No Address Table" on Disk Array

Hi ,

The error "No Address Table" appears if the datamaps in the NVRAM are lost on account of improper shutdown of the array. With recover option, the data maps are restored to NVRAM from the disk drives.

The "Recover" option is under "Cntrl Changes" menu. You can only have "Recover" option there if the controller firmware later than HP40 and any patch delivered after IPR9808 release.

Refer following doc for control panel quick reference
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/lpg28367/lpg28367.pdf

Second option would using "arrayrecover" utility.
Refer following document to careful use of the utility.
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/lpg28365/lpg28365.pdf

Be-aware with this incident , you should know the controller battery might be bad or mal-functioning. Get it replace as well to avoide such issue in abrupt shutdown occuring in future.

Re: "No Address Table" on Disk Array

Thanks for response.

The firmware level at HP27, so definitely an issue. Tried to upgrade to HP62 and got the message "controller in a state that will not accept microcode download".

Tried "arrayrecover" and it didn't like the firmware version.

Is there a way to upgrade firmware on 12H in this state or is reformatting the only option?

Re: "No Address Table" on Disk Array

I guess you will be able to download firmware only if the array is in a good status. Reformat the array, download firmware and restore your backup. Remember to install the necessary patches (in fact the appropriate management commands).

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Thanks all. Looks like reformatting the only option.

Reformatting array only option.
