How do I find out what argument I give to
symdev show?

Hi etc,
you need to give symmetrix device number with symdev show.
Ex:
#symdev show 001 -sid 1234
You can use "syminq" and find the symm device number followed by Symmetrix serial number.
You can use "symdev -help" or man symdev to find more options.
