Re: upgrading EVA5000 to EVA8000

Subhash,

Normally you can do this without loosing data.
But i think it is advisable to take a good backup and have a DRP plan before you do it.

First you EVA5000 must have a mimimum VCS off 4.x, it think it is even better to go to 5.x. To do this step your complete environment must be checked. (card, drivers, switches) When you performed this step you can upgrade to EVA8000.

But I wouldn't do this the same day. In case of problems you don't know what the reason of the problem might be

Re: upgrading EVA5000 to EVA8000

Hi,

minimum Version for "data in place" upgrade is VCS3.028, good idea is to perfom "MDU scan" if the EVA is initializied with VCS3.014 or lower.
I have done 4x times upgrade from EVA5000 (VCS3.028) to EVA8000 (XC5.110, 2GBit HSV210 Controller) with "data in place" without problems.

See - EVA3000/5000 Upgrade to 4Gb EVA -

http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12408_div/12408_div.html#Configuration%20Information%20and%20Configuration%20Rules -

New EVA8000 Controller HSV210-A (4GB) need the new backend loop switches AD557B,
also I/O A&B (AD623B, AD624B
). The minimum supported I/O module is Type: 2, version 2, FW 2.002. Only I/O modules older than this must be replaced.
EMU (AD625B) The minimum supported EMU is Version 2. Only EMUs older than this must be replaced.
You need also new BC and CA Licenses for new HSV210-A Controller

Best way is to contact HP Service for this upgrade.

"First you EVA5000 must have a mimimum VCS off 4.x, it think it is even better to go to 5.x. "

EVA5000 can not go to 5.xxx. As far as I know, there is no VCS 5.xxx. 5.xxx is XCS and for the EVA4000/6000/8000.
