virtual array SDM

I have a virtual array 7110 which belongs to a SAN and can be accessed by two nodes . I have installed SDM , command view , in both nodes but I can only control the VA from one node . I have reinstalled command view in the second node but nothing changes .

In the second node I always get the same output:
Aramis:/opt/sanmgr/commandview/client/sbin> armdiscover
This could take several minutes ...

Failed to obtain remote database interface to host: localhost.

Can anybody tell me how to configure the second node to be able to work . Must this second node be a client of the first node to perfrom the administration ?

Re: virtual array SDM

Unless you have purchased a second license, you are not allowed to install the commandview software on a second system. You should manage it all from one host.

Re: virtual array SDM

Having said that, however, I wasn't aware that it would actually block you from managing it from both systems.

I would think that if one of the systems failed, then you should be able to manage it from the other. perhaps all that is stopping you is some sort of lock that the first host places on changing the array.

Re: virtual array SDM

Hi Javier,

The problem on second node should be linked
to Command View daemon hostagent and diald..
You could try the following procedure to manage your array properly.

On the second node:

1- Stop the daemon responsible of array management

# /opt/sanmgr/commandview/server/sbin/HA_Dial_Stop

2 - Restart the daemons

# /opt/sanmgr/commandview/server/sbin/HA_Dial_Start

3 - Run armdiscover

The result must show entries from your VA.

If the problem is linked with security feature, you could disabled it by setting
parameter SECURITY_ENABLED=false in the file
/opt/sanmgr/commandview/server/config/PanConfigParams.txt and re-run previous command.

hope this help!

Re: virtual array SDM

Hi Javier,

Joshua was rigth, you will need to purchase a second license to manage you VA from another host.
Usually, only one command view's license comes with the VA box.
