xp1024 rebuild disk

Hi Gurus,
My question is : on a XP1024 Raid 5 setup when a disk fails and hotspare is used, would the effected array group suffer from performance degradation? Would this also applies when the 'faulty' drive is replace with a new drive?

i was told that on the XP1024, there is NO performance degradation, is this true?

Thank you

Re: xp1024 rebuild disk

If the array preventive fail the drive, it can copy the data directly to the spare. If the disk unexpectedly fails, the array must probably recalculate the RAID (depends on priority).
Once the disk is replaced, there will a direct copy take place. Such a copy does not influence performance.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: xp1024 rebuild disk

Can I add a follow-up question to this please?

In terms of swapping over and fitting the hotspare, is this literally a case of swapping over the disk or are there some authentication codes to be aware of?

Thanks
Torsten.
