xp128+ibm p650 AIX

we have a xp128 with 2 hp server rp5470;now we get 2 new IBM p650 and want to connect to xp128 via the san swith;
1, our plan: map newly added lun to p650 via hostgroup, it is possible?
2. we don't buy autopath for aix, is it necessary?
3. any special action needed?

Re: xp128+ibm p650 AIX

Hi,
Long time I touched aix but from what I see here:
1) yes
2) We have HDS equivalent (HDLM), since we have HDS bays... You need to have the functionality see below...
3) I dont think so (using HDLM or equivalent like autopath...)

About 2) I have seen that since aix 5L (>5.2)
There is an IBM option (no idea if this is to buy though...) called AIX MPIO, this features allows multiple path to devices so you can define alternate paths for failover purpose (a must with these bays to have duall acces since one path can be brought down for microcode update...)

think u for ur suggestions; it is a great help to me
still one more question?

* dose MPIO SUPPORT THE XP128? i dont by autopath or the equivlents;
* in HP UNIX, there is a PV link , any product of the same function in IBM AIX?

Re: xp128+ibm p650 AIX

Yes, the XP128 supports IBM's MPIO - MPIO is the equivelent of PV-Links.

There is a AIX MPIO quick-connect guide available - it's an HP Restricted document, so talk to your HP support team to get a copy - I can't post Restricted documents here.

Good luck,

Vince
