SATA hard drive installation in HP Pavillion 734n

I just bought and tried to instal a Seagate 500Gb SATA internal hard drive. The instructions say to plug in the SATA data cable on a spare slot. i can't find anything that looks like a SATA cable male end on the motherboard. Am I missing something? IS this computer too old for this HD? Are there adaptors or something else to make this work or do I have to go with an external drive?
