Creat a Raid on a DL380G5 with internal Storage

Hello!

We have a DL380G5 server with 8 SAS 146GB HD`s. On the machin is ESX v4 installed. The HD`s runs without any raid. No we would config all HDs to Raid1. How can we create a Raid1 without losing data?

The System Management Homepage is installed, but there we cannot config the RAID. And at the ROM tool (pressed F8 BOOT) we canont define to keep data from a existing HD.

The Raid Tools for Windows we cant use. We have no Windows System directly on the bare metal.

Summary, we would create a ride without lose data.

Thanks for answer!

Hi,

First of all: all changes on the RAID config will erase the drives.

IMO the ONLY way to achieve this is to "evacuate"/ copy all data off the drives, create the RAID and copy the drives back on the RAID.

kind regards

Does the server have a RAID Array Controller in it? If so, how did it get built originally if there were no RAID Arrays configured? The OS would not have seen any of the drives.

The SMH is not the tool for configuring RAID Arrays, you would need the ACU utility.

There is no specific download for ACU for ESX 4, but there is for Linux. Look your server up and select a Linux OS to find the ACU.

Since you have a service console, you should be able to install the rpm and since you have the SMH running, all the necessary ports should be open for you to access the ACU opnce installed. It is web based just like the SMH and other Windows versions.

There is also a CLI version.
