ESX 4.1 lost networking

I have installed esx 4.1 on my DL380 G7 server. Also Vcenter server is up and tunning and all pathes are installed, but for some reason i lose my networking after a reboor of the host. I have 3 vswitches (the default VMNetwork + 2 additional network switches).
After the reboor it remembers the deafult VM Network, bit the other 2 are lost.

Is there somebody who can help me please :-(

Hi,

Try updating all firmware on the server and drivers,

find the below link for driver download
http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/datacenter_downloads/vmware_vsphere_4/4_0#drivers_tools

verify network settings you did from command line and also create vSwitch configuration from command line

Re: ESX 4.1 lost networking

I have the same problem, my server (ML 150 G6) is not connected to the network after reboot. I have had the system board replaced, but it didn't fix it. I believe I have the latest driver.

If i boot the server to troubleshooting mode, it connects to the network (I can ping other computer on the same network), but not when i do the normal boot.

How can i fix this?

Re: ESX 4.1 lost networking

Hello I agree this should be firmware/driver issue .

here are similar issues disribed in vmware KB and other sites:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1015620

http://www.boche.net/blog/index.php/2011/06/11/ibm-x3850-nics-lose-network-connectivity-with-esxi-4-0-update-1/

As you have new G7 server, check again all firmwares and and drivers related to ESX4.1 at http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdHome/?sp4ts.oid=4091432&spf_p.tpst=psiSwdMain&spf_p.prp_psiSwdMain=wsrp-navigationalState%3Dlang%253Den%257Ccc%253DUS%257CprodNameId%253D4091432%257CprodSeriesId%253D4091412%257CswLang%253D8%257CswEnvOID%253D4091%257Caction%253DlistDriver&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.c...

Keep in mind, there is brand new broadcom network driver at this page. Do not forget check firmware directly for you NICs - probably broadcom or if you have other addon cards.

And - do no forget fully update your ESX via Update Manager.

If nothing from here helps, contact Vmware and/or HP support.

Re: ESX 4.1 lost networking

For the 1st link,

ethtool-S vmnicX didn't give me any error message.

my original setting is 1000 Mb, Full Duplex and when I change it to auto negotiate, it went ok, but everytime I revert it back to 1000Mb full duplex, my vsphere loses connectivity.

The second link,

esxcfg-module -s IntMode=0,0,0,0 e1000e

esxcfg-boot -b

it run ok, but still didn't fix the connectivity problem

For the last link, I have copied across the .iso to the server,  how do i install it? All the instruction I could find is to run vihostupdate <conn_options> --install --bundle file.zip

or esxupdate --bundle=file.zip update,

but I have .iso file, not .zip file. am I missing something??

Re: ESX 4.1 lost networking

Hello,

you can mount iso image as cdrom/virtual cdrom. Need zip files are inside this image.
