after ESX Update only 50 percent of memory is in use

We updated ESX 3.5 U4 to ESX 4 Update 1, Build 256968. On host HP PL DL360 Generation 4 the update was ok but on HP PL DL360 Generation 5 ESX only uses half of ram.
A memory error can be counted out, because you can see the total memory of 8 GByte in the system management console an on startup.

What is the module layout in banks? Were all 8GB "visible" in ESX before the upgrade? Was "Online spare" memory mode in use before the upgrade?

The sockets 1,3,5 and 7 are clocked with 2 GByte modules. 2,4,6 and 8 are free. The online spare mode already exists before the update was installed.

Perhaps you could try disabling the online spare mode and see if that helps. It looks like half of the RAM modules (2x2GB) are online and being used, the other half are on stand-by.

I suggest disabling online spares - do you need it? I could be done in system bios.
