Adding Storageworks 4/8 Switch to existing EVA4000

Currently we have an existing EVA4000 with a single Storageworks 4/8 Switch. We have purchased second switch for redundancy protection. What configuration and licensing do I need to add the second switch into the EVA please?

The current licenses installed are just the port licenses shown as Unknown1 and Unknown2 on both the switches.

Hi Jason!

You need at least Fabric license if you want two switches to form one fabric. If you will use second switch only for redundancy, base switch (no licenses) is enough.

Would having a single fabric offer better performance over two seperate fabrics? Is it just the fabric license that's needed, and would this be needed for both switches?

Jason,

Usually second switch is used for better availability, it doesn't improve performance (btw, SAN is rarely bottleneck in performance issues). So if you want to use two switches for redundancy, you don't need to connect two switches together, hence no need in licenses.

Thanks. I'll just go ahead and configure this with it's own zones and things then.
