Changing a Volume Name

Can the name of a volume(s) be changed on a P2000 without any consequences? IOW, I have 2 vDisks with 6 volumes. It would help us to have different names for the volumes when viewed in the SMU. I don't want to affect the LUN's and data to the hosts. Thanks.

Re: Changing a Volume Name

Clarification:
I have not tried this myself so don't know for sure.

Hey, the hosts should access the logical unit number (LUN) of each volume, not the name of it.

Is it FC, SAS or iSCSI? IMO theoretically it shouldn't matter.

As always, have you looked through release notes of firmwares? I don't know them by heart but I hope there aren't any fixes in regards to this.

Re: Changing a Volume Name

The configuration is P2000 FC with dual controllers. 12 - 600GB SAS drives. Two Vdisks, RAID 5, with 3 Volumes each. 2 Global Hot Spares. Total of six LUN's presented to six VMware hosts.

Re: Changing a Volume Name

Hi Michael,

I have a P2000 G3 and here it is possible to change the Volume name without any impact; Just tested it successfully.

If you want to be 100% sure this works for you, why don├В┬┤t you just create a very small volume, assign this and rename it after presentation to a test system?!

kind regards
Markus
