Compaq HSV110 device

Hi,

After connecting a Win 2000 server to an EVA5000 we see several (up to 18) HSV110 devices in the windows device manager. Is this a bug or do we need to install a driver for this devices. If yes, where can I get, since I could not find it on the HP pages.

Regards,
Martin

Re: Compaq HSV110 device

Probably you have two HBAs in your servers so OS sees one LUN through multiple paths. You eider need to purchase Secure Path software from HP:
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/sanworks/secure-path/index.html

Or to try with free multipathing software: http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/sanworks/multipathoptions/index.html

Without multipathing software you will see each LUN four times.

Re: Compaq HSV110 device

It sounds like as well as a multipath option as Gorin mentioned you also need to install the platform kit for the EVA. Platform kits include the documentation as well as drivers for platform specific HBA's.

Platform kits for Windows can be found at http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/softwaredrivers/enterprise/index.html

It sounds also like you haven't done any zoning on the switches, this should be done as a matter of Best Practices.

Re: Compaq HSV110 device

Hello,

We have zoning active and only one path to the eva. It was just the missing platform kit.

Re: Compaq HSV110 device

Sorry, but that does not make sense to me. A simple driver from the platform kit does not filter out redundant paths and if the zoning had worked you should not have seen the other paths. Is it possible that the zoning was not properly activated when you tried it the first time?

Re: Compaq HSV110 device

We only had obe path to the eva, and I saw every LUN only once. We just saw the HSB controller 7 times for every LUN mapped to the server.

Re: Compaq HSV110 device

Are you talking about LUN #0? Did you take a picture when you encountered the problem and can you put it up as an attachment?

Re: Compaq HSV110 device

Sorry, I have no pictures. And I do not talk of LUN 0. I never saw one on a EVA system only on VAs.

Re: Compaq HSV110 device

But LUN #0 represents the HSV controller. It is not a disk device unlike on the VA. Please see the attachment how it looks like.

And see this attachment how a virtual disk looks like.
