Difference between EVA4000, 6000 & 8000

Can someone tell me the difference between these 3 devices?

I've got an 8000 that's coming out of warranty. I'm looking at using a 3rd party but they currently only cover the 4000 & 6000.

From what i remember when we bought it, the difference was only the controllers/loop switches. The drive shelves & disks were the same across all platforms.

We've got:

AD519B (EVA8000)
293568-B23 - 72G FC disks
M5314B - enclosures

I also believe that our EVA is the 4GB version (i thought it was an 8100, but the part schedule says 8000).

Your help greatly appreciated & points will be awarded, especially for quick responses.

Re: Difference between EVA4000, 6000 & 8000

The EVA4000 and EVA6000 use the same controller module, but the EVA6000 has two loop switches in the back-end to support up to 8 disk drive enclosures.

The EVA8000 uses a different controller module with 4 front-end ports and 4 back-end ports, so it requires 4 loop switches.

The disk drive enclosures and disk drives are compatible.

The EVA4100/6100/8100 are built with a newer controller and a new generation of disk drive enclosures which uses a small 'cut-through' switch in the I/O module instead of a FC_AL hub.

So, disk drive enclosures are NOT compatible between X000 and X100 series.

The EVA4400/6400/8400 use new controllers and disk drive enclosures with all new design. Disk drives are not up/downward compatible.

Uwe,

Thanks for the quick response.

So the controllers and loop switches are different, but the shelves and drives are common between the 4000, 6000 and 8000 (just confirming)?

I don't have a detailed part list with me right now, but I would be surprised if they used a different switch model for the 6000 and 8000.

Re: Difference between EVA4000, 6000 & 8000

I couldn't find the quickspecs of the 8000, but the 6100 and 8100 APPEAR to have difference loop switches, or else there's just more of them (6100 has 2, 8100 has 4).

Thanks for your help Uwe.

Re: Difference between EVA4000, 6000 & 8000

I've played a bit with http://www.partsurfer.hp.com/ and they seem to use the same switch.

(Yes, the 6100 uses 2 and the 8100 uses 4 loop switches - it is just an enhanced 6000/8000, but the basic design is the same.)
