FC Tape Devices

Hi,

We have tape devices attached to our HP-UX
IA-64 rx8640 via Fibre. Our HBA Card Model is AD194A (4GB). In the middle of the connectivity is a Cisco MDS-9000 switch.

I'm wondering what the maximum number of tape devices each HBA WWN will have the ability to see with these HBA Types? Is this an actual HBA limitation or an OS Limitation?

Thanks in advance,

Re: FC Tape Devices

The number of tapes that your HBA will see is dependent on how many FC tape drives you have zoned to be visible to the HBA on your RX8640. So if you modify your MDS9000 fabric to add all your FC Tapes to a zone with your RX8640 then you will be able to see all your FC Tape drives.

Re: FC Tape Devices

We are trying to show 38 devices per each HBA. In this is also 38 devices per zone.

So you're saying there is no total OS limit or limit on a single HBA port?

Re: FC Tape Devices

Well, there is (almost) no limit "how many to see" but there is a limit "how many to handle" due to the bandwith. Keep this in mind ...

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: FC Tape Devices

Thanks everyone, I think we're well within any limits that could have been existing.

Much Appreciated!
