Fibre Switch Firmware

Hi all, when i check firmware version on my SAN Switches, I get this info:

Kernel: 5.3.1
Fabric OS: v2.1.9m
Made on: Wed Jun 6 16:47:51 PDT 2001
Flash: Wed Jun 6 16:48:50 PDT 2001
BootProm: Thu Jun 17 15:20:39 PDT 1999

Does anyone know what model of compaq switch this would be? Also, what is the recommended firmware level for this switch?

Re: Fibre Switch Firmware

The 'Fabric OS v2.1.9m' most likely is a Brocade Silkworm 2400 (8 Port) or 2800 (16 Port).

The newest firmware for this switch would be v2.6.1a, but you should check the support status with your Storage Vendor first, before upgrading.

I have only found the 3000' Series Switches on the Compaq Homepage, so I can not tell you the corresponding Compaq name.

Re: Fibre Switch Firmware

Its probably a brocade silkworm switch and the latest fabric OS is v2.6.* .

If you know the IP address of your switch , point your browswer to that IP , you will get more info.

Re: Fibre Switch Firmware

Aaah ok thanks, does that mean that Compaq 8/16 FC Switches are actually Brocade Silkworm inside?

Re: Fibre Switch Firmware

Yes, thats right.
They 'translate' to Brocade 3200 and 3800.

Compaq has a B Series (=Brocade), C = Cisco and M = McData.

Re: Fibre Switch Firmware

The latest firmware is 2.6.1a. It can be found here:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?pnameOID=304728&taskId=135&locale=en_US&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=311232&swEnvOID=-526

V2.1.9m was the last version approved by COmpaq before they jumped to 2.6.0. Note: you will see a HUGE difference in your GUI interface. The biggest difference is that you now need to go to the CONFIG tab and do both an ENABLE, and a SAVE.

According to my Brocade SE, we want to be at 2.6.1(a) for compatibility with the 2GB products.

Note: If you upgrade your firmware, this would also be a good time to change your PID_MODE from 0 to 1 so that you CAN talk to the 2 gig switches.

Re: Fibre Switch Firmware

Actually:
SAN Switch 8 = I forget
SAN Switch 16 = Brocade 2800 (1GIG switch)
SAN Switch 2/8 = Brocade 3200 (2 gig)
SAN Switch 2/16 = Brocade 3800
San Switch 2/32 = Brocade 3900
