MA8000 and EVA4400 on same SAN/Fabric ?

Was wondering...

we will be moving off our current MA8000 (HSG80 ) arrays to a new EVA4400 at some point..Looking for some thoughts/experiance having both type storage arrays on the same SAN/Fabric ? We are using HP SANSwitch 2/32 ( Brocade 3900 ) type switch options and older Brocade 2800's.. The 2800's will go away with the MA8000's.. the Brocade 3900's will stay for a while , perhaps change to 4Gb switch options at some point in time.. Oh Yea, we wil be injecting a HP c3000 blade configuration also soon... What a ride !!! Any inputs welcome! Thank you...

Re: MA8000 and EVA4400 on same SAN/Fabric ?

Hi George,

As long as everything is appropriately zoned, I don't see why there should be any issues.

I've had a couple of HSG80s and a couple of EVA5000s on the same fabric previously without any issues.

Cheers,

Rob

P.S. Please remember to assign points...

Thanks Rob... Intent would be to ONLY have the MA's be online for data moves to EVA volumes...

Hi,

What operating systems are you running on the HSGs ?

The last time I looked, the EVA4400s were a little restrictive in their support of some of the more legacy OSs out there, which I guess might affect you as you're still on the MA8000s.

Cheers,

Rob,

about 95% Windows 2003, a few Windows 2000's and I think there are 2 Sun Solaris servers..and .. The backup server is also a Sun V480 Solaris / Legato box.

Sorry.. Not an OpenVms box left in the house ( of Vax,Alpha, or newer Itanium fame! )

We are an old Digital-->Quantum--> Maxtor--now Seagate site in Shrewsbury Mass..

Will also admit to many 36 bit Decsystem10/20 and PDP 11's rides back in the early 80's
