SFP compatibility
I need to connect one additional server to our existing 4/8 Base SAN switch. I looked at the prices of SFPs and HP SFPs (A7446B) cost 2x more than IBM SFPs (39R6475). Otherwise they seem to have identical specs (4 Gbit/s mini-GBIC, short wave). Is it safe to use IBM SFPs in HP Base SAN switch, or is there some danger of incompatibility?

Re: SFP compatibility
HI,
as soon as you move away from supported configurations there is an element of risk.
it may well work , but if you have issues in future then HP may well throw it back at you.
how often do you buy sfp's , is the system critical ? do the savings justify the risk ? there may be other reasons one is more expensive than the other ?
fwiw

Re: SFP compatibility
Compatibility and Support are main aspects. The Sfp may work well and you can test it in your test environment. If its a production SAN, its always recommended to go with the same vendor.
