Secure Path and Ioscan errors

I am running hpux 11.0 with secure path 3.0B and have encountered an annoying problem. Whenever an ioscan is run, I get an email sent to root with the following messages.

Subject: Secure Path Event Notification (Informational)

Configuration error. Invalid or missing target/lun wwlid entry for 600508B4001021D20000D00001240000 on array 50001FE150048660
Configuration error. Invalid or missing target/lun wwlid entry for 600508B4001021D20000D00001240000 on array 50001FE150048660
Configuration error. Invalid or missing target/lun wwlid entry for 600508B4001021D20000D00001270000 on array 50001FE150048660
Configuration error. Invalid or missing target/lun wwlid entry for 600508B4001021D20000D00001270000 on array 50001FE150048660

We get these for every Lun presented to the host. My hpux 11.11 servers do not do this, but the 11.0 ones do. Is there a patch available for this ?? or does anyone know how to fix it...

Thanks

Re: Secure Path and Ioscan errors

HP StorageWorks Secure Path Version 3.0B Service Pack 1 for HP-UX Release Notes (AA-RR4WG-TE, June 2003) says on page 17:

If a device is deleted using spmgr delete and not unpresented at the array and then ioscan is run, the device is shown as unattached using
spmgr display -u

However, event notification messages written to each spmgr logging facility that has been set to include informational events will show the device as misconfigured until a new kernel is built and the server is rebooted. The message reads as follows:

Configuration error. Invalid or missing target/lun wwlid entry
for 60001FE1000FE8600009105071230009 on array 50001FE1000FE860.

The message intends to indicate the missing target/LUN number for the device and is not a problem with the configuration. The message repeats for any subsequent ioscan and ceases after the kernel rebuild/reboot has been
done.

Re: Secure Path and Ioscan errors

Uwe,

Thanks for the response. In this case, the luns that are listed are currently being used. We do not have any luns presented to the system but deleted from secure path. The luns it list are being actively used by lv's in volume groups. Can you send me a link to the Secure Path 3.0B Service Pack 1?? I can not find it on the website, I can find service packs and updates for 3.0D and 3.0E but not B. Our hp engineer that came onsite told us that for hpux 11.0 we had to run 3.0B and that's why we are running this version. So, my problem is a close description to that which is listed in the service pack release notes, but not exact, makes me wonder if the service pack would resolve the issue.

Thanks

Here is the link (glad I saved it ;-)

""told us that for hpux 11.0 we had to run 3.0B"

Interesting, I have a manual from the web page that has the following title:
"HP StorageWorks Secure Path V3.0E for HP-UX 11.00 and HP-UX 11.00 Workgroup Edition V3.0E Release Notes (T3549-96201 - October 2004)

(I have not read through the manual)

You might also try V3.0D:

Not meaning to be rude, but this is Marked with a symbol meaning that my question has been answered, but it hasn't exactly.

Re: Secure Path and Ioscan errors

Uwe,

Thank you very much for the link. I posted the comment stating the problem wasnt' solved at the same time you posted the link...

Do you know what, "Array Controller Software 8.6 or 8.7, or Virtual Controller Software 2.0 or 3.0 " is?? that's listed as a pre-requisite... I am fairly sure I have it, but don't know what that is.....

Thanks

Don't worry. I can't speak for everybody, but I and many others have never seen a bunny as a signal to end a discussion - rather a sign of highly appreciation.

Re: Secure Path and Ioscan errors

Wow. If that wasn't a race condition, then I don't know what is ;-)

Array Controller Software (ACS) is the firmware for the HSG60 and HSG80 storage controllers used in RA8000, ESA12000, MA6000, MA8000, EMA12000 and EMA16000 storage arrays.

Virtual Controller Software (VCS) is the firmware used for HSV100 (EVA3000) and HSV1100 (EVA5000) storage arrays.

You could also call the firmware some type of 'operating system'.

Re: Secure Path and Ioscan errors

Thanks for all your help, I will try this...
I will install the 3.0B Service Pack 1 ontop of the currently installed 3.0B.
Thanks AGAIN
