Re: VRaid 5 in EVA 3000

Hi,

In an EVA configured with single sparing, the size of 2 of the largest disks in a disk group are allocated for sparing information.

A 146GB disk is actually only ~139GB when you convert marketing GB to real GB.

Therefore space in your disk group would be (8 - 2) x 139 = 834GB.

VRaid5 can use up to 0.8 (four fifths) of that space, so you should have around 667GB available.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Rob

Re: VRaid 5 in EVA 3000

Hi,

What is the sparing level set to on the Disk Group ?

Are there only the 8 x 146GB disks in the Disk Group ?

Are there any other Vdisks already in the Disk Group ?

Cheers,

Rob

Re: VRaid 5 in EVA 3000

Check you disk alarm level and diskprotection level.
(8 Disks minus 1 for sparing) * 136.73GB (raw size) * 0.75 (RAID 5) * 0.90 (protection level)

Re: VRaid 5 in EVA 3000

8 disks at Single protection gives
(8-2) * 136.73 = 820GB available space.

VRAID 5 is 4+1 or 80% efficient, so you should be able to get 656 GB at 100% occupancy, which HP does not recommend.

Is there a 64 GB VDisk already created in the group?
