Hello Admins,

This just a fundamental question.

Please help me to understand difference between

1.N_Port Node World Wide Name
2.N_Port Port World Wide Name
3.Switch Port World Wide Name
4.Switch Node World Wide Name
5.Local N_Port_id
6.Previous N_Port_id

Which wwn number is used to do zoning in switch ?
Please help me to understand how connectivity flow between server-switch-storage

Hey

this is a question about perspective.

N_port is the device/hba/server. The FC HBA has a nwwn and each port has a pwwn.

Same goes for the Switch port (F_port), the switch has a nwwn and each port has a pwwn.

5/6 I don't know what they would refer to.

You do not have to do zoning with wwn, you can also do it with "domainid, portid" - for the physical port in the switch, instead of the wwn.

You would zone on pwwn on the initiator/target. If you use for example Brocade, when you go into the webtools you will see the wwns that the switch can see.
