cant get to switch by IP

Brand new switch (4/32B), rack it and plug the serial cable into my laptop and throw the Brocade EZSwitchSetup CD into the drive.

EZ finds the switch and we start the process...give it an IP address and click next, but after 2 minutes it says something like 'cannot access the switch through the IP address, do you want to continue?'.

Switch is definitely connected to a working ProCurve (other machines are working fine) and I have rebooted the 4/32B and the ProCurve along the way.

I can't ping it or see it from Internet Explorer (get the 404 message), although at one point I used DHCP on the switch and the DHCP server did give it an address (which I still could not reach).

Any thoughts?

can you get a login prompt using hyperterm/putty etc through the serial cable ?

yes, HyperTerm can login and I have done the 'ipaddrset' from the CLI, but after I logout the switch is still not visible to EZSS or IE.

what does ifshow and ifmodeshow say about the address and interface status ?

thanks for the help Mark...

Went back to the CLI and told it to 'fastboot' and suddenly everything works.

huh ? even though you'd booted it earlier ! that's what i love about computing - it all makes perfect sense !!!?? :-)
