Hi folks,
I'm new to SAN.
I have a HP smart array 4/16 port FC,
FC switch, and a HP DL380 PC.
I just install FC card to Server, its running Linux 2.6 kernel (LFS Linux).
HW setup is done. Cables are connected, FC adpter and switch is in "green" lights now.
Qustion 1. How do I know wich driver the FC card is using, eg: /dev/fc or some other? how to talt to FC disk from the server?
Q2 : do I need to install addtional SW to see the LUNs?
Q3 : I can log into the switch using telnet 10.77.77.77. Is there is any better SW to see graphically the LUNs? how? what are the parameters i need to set from the comand line to switch? ie, like WWN.
Q4 : what are the other thing I will need to do, to see the LUNs in the linux server?
Q5 : any good web sites /doc to learn setup?
Thanks in advance.

Re: how to setup san?
Nathan,
I am not sure how much this will help you, but will give you few information needed.

Solution
If you can Telnet to 10.77.77.77, you can http://10.77.77.77 as well. (Requires Java plug-in.)
Then in another browser window, go to http://www.hp.com/go/storage, and click on "SAN infrastructure", then click on "Fibre Channel Switches", then find your switch in the "B_Series" switches. Lots of documentation beyond that.
Finally, back at the "SAN infrastructure" page, click on "SAN Design Guide" for more SAN setup information than you want!
Note: While I am an HPE Employee, all of my comments (whether noted or not), are my own and are not any official representation of the company

Re: how to setup san?
Hello,
Good questions. I had/have the same. I don't have the same hardware as you do (MSA1500 + BL20pG3 blades here), but I ran into the same questions. I am not sure if I have everything configured exactly right yet. HP support has been almost no help. I really wonder if anyone other than HP Marketing has jumped on the Linux wagon. Sorry, had to say it because I've been very displeased with HP's lack of Linux knowledge. Anyway......
FC driver info: cat /proc/scsi/qla2xxx/0 and /proc/scsi/qla2xxx/1 to get the driver version for the FC card(s). I am currently using Firmware version 3.03.18 IPX, Driver version 8.01.03.
In regards to multipathing configuration, if you've got dual FC HBAs: The multipathing answer for Linux in the past has been SecurePath. I was informed that SecurePath will not work with the 2.6.x kernels. I have been working on the device-mapper and multipathd packages for Linux. Some info can be found here: http://www.calivia.com/multipath-tools
