A Cloud Transformation Could Give Santa Claus Plenty of Reasons to Put HP on the Nice List

Santa HP.pngIn less than a week, Santa will be packing up his sleigh, checking his list one last time and fight blizzards to deliver toys to all the good children around the world. One of the most successful enterprises of all times (who else can deliver one gift every 0.0000000002 seconds to reach every customer on every continent in a 24-hour period?), Santa's Workshop is admired by most Fortune 500 companies for its ability to remain relevant after hundreds of years — as well as its ability to reinvent itself with the latest technology (most famously, using reindeer with mutant genes/nuclear glowing red noses in the 1960's).

But like many enterprises, Santa's Workshop remains saddled with an aging IT infrastructure, which leaves it vulnerable to security threats and unflexible to unexpected events. HP Enterprise Services' cloud elves went to the North Pole to analyze the IT environment of Santa's Workshop. Their mission was to determine how a cloud transformation could benefit an enterprise run by a man who will only wear suits made of red velvet. Here's what they found:

  • An HP Enterprise Cloud Services — Virtual Private Cloud would enable Santa to quickly align his IT capacity with changing business demands during the fall/winter seasons.
  • Rapid scaling, enabled by HP Enterprise Cloud Services — Virtual Private Cloud, would support peak demand for Santa’s Workshop during the holiday season and enable less dependence on an untrained and unpaid workforce of pointy-eared, squeaky-voiced misfits, who could once again focus entirely on toy making.
  • A managed cloud would enable new IT efficiencies, resulting in year-over-year cost savings, even as the scope and quality of the services is enhanced.
  • Santa could even experience cost savings of 30 – 35 percent for enterprise applications hosting, with no capital investment, like other HP clients are experiencing.
  • Santa would have real-time data access and predictive analytics for faster business decisions.
  • Like other HP Enterprise Cloud Services clients, Santa would have the ability to keep up with at least 5 percent growth per year in servers and 20 percent in storage with anticipated population growth.
  • Santa would be protected from outages (e.g. unforeseen snow storms) and data loss with ‘hardened’ secure network compartments.
  • Santa’s Workshop would be secured from the more than 5 million hacking attempts each day from Naughty Kids looking to change their status on his list.
  • 99.999 percent availability would ensure Santa’s Workshop can deliver toys (and coal) to its 2.2 billion customers.

So there is ho, ho, hope — even for an antiquated legacy IT environment like Santa's. If you want your own infrastructure and applications to fly at the speed of reindeer, you can start here to learn the benefits your own enterprise could experience with HP Enterprise Cloud Services.
