A few years ago, before tablets became wildly popular and smartphones a must-have gadget for 6th graders, mobility in the enterprise was easier. Easier …but much more limited in its business potential. A company would typically choose between supporting Blackberry Enterprise Server and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, establish a few security policy settings (most often related to PIN, device lock, and wipe) and deny access to any corporate network resources other than email. Mobile applications (any kind of mobile app) were difficult for the average user to find and install. Most enterprise applications were created specifically for field tasks using ruggedized devices.

What a difference a few years makes! Today, the ever-increasing popularity of apps, smartphones and tablets is making enterprise mobility a complex challenge for IT. On one hand, users can choose from a rapidly expanding market of diverse and powerful mobile devices they eagerly want to connect to corporate email, business applications, and Intranet resources …all while still being able to use personal apps like Facebook, Pandora, and others. On the otherchip vollers.jpg hand, IT needs to meet data security and compliance requirements. For mobility to drive real productivity gains, you must find the right balance so users can connect to business apps and data while still giving IT the ability to control access and protect sensitive data.

HP is helping provide that balance with HP Mobile Management Services (MMS). MMS goes beyond traditional mobile device management to focus on securing apps and data. With one service, we bring together device configuration, service enrollment, security management, inventory reporting, service monitoring, and application management. It’s a complete mobile management solution that allows IT to avoid the costs and complexities of integrating multiple point solutions. Here are a few of the key pain points we are addressing with this service:

  • Protecting against data leaks. Manage how data can be distributed from the mobile device and where it can be shared.
    • Controlling application use. Allow application whitelisting, blacklisting, and other policy-driven application usage restrictions.
    • Managing diversity. Use HP management strategies designed to address a mix of mobile device usage scenarios.

HP Benefits:

  • End-to-end, integrated approach to enterprise mobility – MMS helps eliminate the need for multiple vendor contracts by tying into a portfolio of HP services designed to work together for a seamless enterprise mobility solution
  • Global delivery support - MMS utilizes a global delivery model built around the Global Mobility Center of Expertise.
  • Consistent governance model - HP guides the mobile transformation process with a single point of contact from functional design through to implementation.
