Evolve your IT services management

By Anne Harding, HP ES Marketing

If you’re like most enterprises, you’re juggling multiple IT suppliers. And for the most part, that’s a good thing. Sourcing IT services from different providers can lower operating cost and assemble the best portfolio of services for your organization. At the same time, though, this integration can add extra hassle and complexity. You’re dealing with a lot of relationships, trying to measure all those service level performances, and working on resolving root cause problems in delivery.

Socialmedia.jpgYou already know that a single mechanism needs to be in place to manage supplier interactions and accountabilities. One IT framework that brings it all together. Connects the delivery of IT work to the business value chain, supports business objectives, and ensures service integrity.

“What we’re talking about here is a complete view of a company’s technology suppliers,” says Cindy Thomas, Director–HP Operational Integration, “and how that single view supports business processes, enabling CIOs to make better business decisions, and improve accountability across the entire IT organization. Regardless of who delivers the IT capabilities, a single framework helps a company better govern and manage its IT environment.”

Session IDBB3417: Case Study: Transforming IT through Service Integration and Management

Date – 12 June 2013 | Time – 1:30-2:30 PM | Location – San Polo 3503

One effective approach, Thomas says, is the HP Service Integrator, which manages the ITIL framework, service-level performance, and multiple internal and external relationships. In this session, Thomas and her colleague Steve Lewis will talk about the implementation of the HP Service Integrator at a large enterprise client and how that helped the enterprise drive service quality and performance.

“The work we did was primarily about establishing a new IT management control point,” says Lewis, who works as the Client Delivery Manager–Operational Integration on the large enterprise client account. “The emerging hybrid environment means requires a very different approach that’s all about command, control, and communication. This implementation advanced the way that the client is able to utilize technology and drive results.”

Strategic discussion areas:

  • Multisupplier integration delivers both benefits and challenges.
  • The hybrid mix of legacy, current, and emerging IT—infrastructure, apps, services, and even IT service management—adds layers of complexity.
  • Suppliers, partners, and internal resources are interdependent and must work together.
  • As the large enterprise client example illustrates, IT should support the business, not the other way around.
  • Successful management and integration is an ongoing journey, and remaining flexible in that journey can create new opportunities for improvement.
