Hi,
the autoreplacement of emoticon is very unfriendly when having to share some technical data like scripts
since some sequence will appear as emoticon when they are only scripts.
for instance
http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Languages-and-Scripting/Script-help/m-p/4804033
how can we find what sequence is the
So please put at least an option on emoticon interpretation ( emoticon in a technical discussion have almost NO added value)
Best regards,
Laurent Menase

Re: New forum and emoticon
Yes I didn't tell that you need to remove separating spaces to reproduce.
And this is really a problem when talking about code.

And more weired - looking into this thread not signed on my 2nd posting shows smilies, after logging in they are gone ...
Someone of the admin's should check this for sure.
Best,
Stephan

Re: New forum and emoticon
Seems to depend on your profile settings, try Preferences / Display / Emoticon type: none.
Looks like "Emoticon type" really means "should I interpret characters and draw a emoticon icon".
IMHO emoticons should always be disabled inside code blocks, regardless of setting...

Re: New forum and emoticon
Hi:
> Michael: IMHO emoticons should always be disabled inside code blocks, regardless of setting...
And I'll go one further: IMHO emoticons have absolutely no place in what should be a technical dialog by default. Making users explicitly disable a setting to insure that no (mis)interpretation occurs is ludicrous. We saw for over 10-years in the ITRC that there are users who drop in and drop out without paying much attention to the community nuances.
I might have responded to the post in question had it not been mangled. If I want social networking, there are plenty of sites that I can visit and this isn't going to be one of them.

Re: New forum and emoticon
Yeah I agree JRF, wanted to say "at least inside code blocks".
Kevin_Paul, could you change the default of Preferences / Display / Emoticon type to none?
