HP MM1 walk up USB printing spews characters instead of printing the pdf.

It seems it worked one time but I don't know what the difference is now. All firmware up to date. I am downloading the pdf from a Mac if that matters. I can see the file and press OK to print. It is one line at the top of the paper of characters. What am I doing wrong?
