WiFi issues on my laptop

I have an Hp laptop I am trying to connect it with my new wifi router, the router is on and the LED is on that means my router is okay but even after why I am unable to open a browser, it is showing connection error. visited HP Support Assistant they told me to update the driver and advised me to download them from a separate computer. still, I am trying since morning. but still unable to connect am I missing something? please suggest me.
