Re: Displaying most recent posts.

Sorry, Stephan, but how is that better?  It's the same order.

Re: Displaying most recent posts.

It doesn't make it better, but you said that it looks random and in fact it is not - if you look at my picture you see the creation date/time and then it is clear that it's just sorted by the wrong date/time.

I'm curious.  This seems to me as if it should be a pretty simple
thing to fix.  How many weeks should it require?  Of course, it also
seems to me that almost any real user would have noticed this behavior
during testing, and anything so fundamentally lame would have been
resolved before this mess was sprung on its victims, so my opinion may
be worth little.

>that almost any real user would have noticed this behavior during testing,

You first have to get N ducks in a row:

1) You have to be a real power user and not a tester.  Most forums are for people asking questions, not answering them.

2) You have to use the "view all" in a category.

3) You have to have the linear form

4) You have to not select sorted by start date.

5) And not give up in disgust and only look at new posts, board by board.

One might argue that a good tester would act like a real user.  And
that a forum would be more valuable if it accommodated people who answer
questions as well as those who ask them.  Or that it should, in general,
act like the thing it's replacing.  Call me unrealistic.

My question remains:  Is the current behavior what is desired?  If
it's not (and it's certainly not by me), then how long should a fix
take?

re

Dennis's  Duck list ... ayup that matches what I do once or twice a day.

Perhaps there could be an 'A.N.A.L.' ribbon. I'd wear it with pride.

Re: Displaying most recent posts.

Tom - this is scheduled to be updated in tomorrow night's build.

There are certain features we can change "on the fly" - almost instantly.  And then there are site configuration items, such as this change from "Recent Topics" to "Recent Posts" which require code changes and a re-start (during one of our two weekly maintenance widows on Tuesday and Thursday nights).

So let's look at how this functionality works as on Wednesday morning and see if it does a better job of meeting everyone's needs than the current implementation.

Well, _that_ change was a disaster.
