Well, _that_ change was a disaster.
Steven - how so? Are you saying you would prefer to have *both* Recent Topics *and* Recent Posts applets on each category page?

Re: Displaying most recent posts.
To the extent that I still care (which is monotonically decreasing),
what I'd like is what I had before The Great Re-Org, that is, a list of
all topics sorted by time of the most recent posting in each topic.
What I seem to have now is a choice between a list of all topics sorted
by time of first posting ("All Topics"), or a list of all (individual)
postings sorted by time of each posting ("All Posts"). In the first
("All Topics"), I can't find the recently changed topics. In the second
("All Posts"), with all the clutter, I can't find much of anything.
If there's some other list which does what the ITRC did, then I
haven't yet found it. In fact, I don't even see a link to the "All
Topics" list now. This morning, I started from scratch in a fresh
browser, and all I could find was a "View All" link under "RECENT
POSTS", which led to the maximally cluttered "All Posts" list, which
would be a disaster if it were the only thing available (which seemed to
be true at the time). Now that I'm back on my normal Mac, I can still
get to the (malsorted) "All Topics" list, but, other than following a
bookmark, I don't know how to get back there from, say, the "Community
Home > Operating Systems > OpenVMS" page:
http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/OpenVMS/ct-p/itrc-288
I can't help wondering how much more participation there is on the
New-and-Improved forums, compared with the old ones. I'm currently away
from my normal VMS system (where the HP-supplied Web browser can't cope
with the new forums), so I'm sitting at a Mac (where the Web browser is
adequate), and I'm still losing interest. Every time my authentication
times out, and the smiley faces reappear, it's one more annoyance added
to the pile.

Re: Displaying most recent posts.
Since it sounds like some people prefer a list of Recent Topics, and others need/want a list of Recent Posts, we'll make them both available on each category page. The change will take place tomorrow night, and be available on Friday morning.
The way the ITRC category listing worked in the past, where you could see all posts within that category, sorted just as a board is (based on the most recent reply within each topic) isn't a function currently available on the Lithium platform. I'll see if there's an opportunity to create something closer to it than the current Recent Topics and Recent Posts applets.

Re: Displaying most recent posts.
Steven,
I hear you about losing interest. I am close to just giving up on the new "community" and finding another forum to to work with. HP does not appear interested in doing anything other than tweeking the multitude of settings that came along as unwanted baggage with the new "Lithium" community.
I think I need a dose of the real Lithium.

Kevin:
The way the ITRC category listing worked in the past is the way I believe most veterans *want* it to work. Why was that changed in the first place??? You (HP and/or Lithium) are just making this harder and more frustating then it ever needed to be.
If I'm watching a thread, I don't want to see N-replies cluttering a "board". Timestamp the thread and order the "board" in last timestamp order (most recent first) with the original thread topic, *not* the N-replies. If I see a change in a thread I'm interested in monitoring, then I descend into it; otherwise use the screen real estate for more threads.
Too, drop the "preview" of a thread's query or response. You're just loosing more real estate for what is usually dribble like "Hi, would you help me please...".
Keep the thread author name associated with the thread. Seeing the last responder's name under the author column is confusing and counterproductive to making mental notes that so-and-so started a really interesting thread.

Jim >Keep the thread author name associated with the thread.
We used to have an author indicator in the old Forum. I suggested in some other thread (Vo's "Forum Feedback"?) that this feature is useful and worth restoring. This doesn't exactly address what you're asking for, but it does go along with the whole line of just who is the author anyway.

Is there anyone who would prefer something other than the way the
ITRC forums worked?

Which says what about the wisdom of choosing the Lithium platform to
replace the old system?

FMI: Do those applets run on your server, or on my (severely
underpowered) client?

It appears that Lithium is designed for the users asking questions, not the ones answering them.
The former probably don't care, so there is no need to ask their opinions.

Perhaps you should have provided a screen shot before the current change so we could provide feedback?

Now there's the most logical explanation I've seen for this debacle! Thanks, Dennis!
