Why force users to have an Avatar?

We definitely need a "none" selection in the "which avatar do you want to display" selection box.

You can use a transparent picture prefered 36 x 64 pixel to replace it if you have the option in your profile.

Right, I understand that I can jump through some hoops to remove the stupid avatar, but I'd rather have someone from HP acknowledge that yes, in fact, we are forcing all our users to either pick a stupid avatar or jump through some hoops to NOT have an avatar.

If you have a smaller size (1 x 1 :-), you take up less space.  See 's.

The 1x1 let look some pages cluttered, but it works as well.

Can it really be that difficult to add an option for no avatar?

I wouldn't think so.  But perhaps they know something else will backfire on them if they do it?  :-)

Making us aware of such an issue would go along way to making this situation seem a lot less silly.

You can of course use firefox's Web Developer add-on and hide all images.  ;-)

The pages are strangely naked and lots of whitespace.

But you do get rid of those "Join in the Conversation" people.  :-)
