i must upgrade 2 systems from 11.00 to 11.23. i already have ordered the CDs (the db is supported on 11.23).
what i have to do?
my plan:
first of all, i will create an ignite tape (just to be sure) and a vgexport -p (because of external disks with vg┬┤s).
insert CD and start installation, upgrade (but, is there a choice for upgrade?).
at the end, all vg┬┤s would be active and mounted, i think, or do i have to re-import them?
what, if i have to reinstall with the ignite-tape?
thanks and best regards

SolutionTo transition from 11.0 to 11.23 you will need to cold-install, not upgrade.
An Ignite backup is always wise before you begin!
# make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 -I -v -a /dev/rmt/0mn
...will make an Ignite recovery tape of all of vg00. Should you need to use it, boot from the tape. You will be prompted to confirm that this is the tape on the date it was created that you want. If you have mirrored logical volumes, you will have to recreate the mirror as Ignite doesn't do this during a recovery.
When you do your preview 'vgexport's:
# vgexport -m /tmp/vgNNmap -s -p -v /tmp/vgNN
...be sure to copy the files off of your server. After the cold install, you can move then onto your new vg00 and 'vgimport' your volume groups.
Regards!

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5992-1978/ch03s02.html
You would need to update to 11.11 and then to 11.23
You need to go for Cold-install of 11.23
Please go via following doc
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5992-1978/ch02s01.html
Please assign points to the thread :)
Best Luck !!

Re: 11.00 to 11.23
This big an upgrade is both not supported and will most likely fail.
update-ux is simply not good at converting complex systems.
You would have to first update to 11.11 and then 11.23.
Much better to vgexport all your important storage, do a cold install of 11.23 (check first if the hardware even supports 11.23). Then reinstall all you apps, vgimport the data and convert it if needed.
If your hardware supports 11.23, consider 11.31. 11.11 and 11.23 have the same end of life date. 11.31 has a end of life date further in the future.
