Re: 2.2.24 kernel

Nope, however, you can download a vanilla 2.2.24 kernel here

http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.4/linux-2.4.24.tar.gz

However, follopw the instructions on building and installing carefully. Aso, if your distribution has specific kernel changes, you might be better getting it from their website.

Re: 2.2.24 kernel

Are you looking for 2.2.24. Normally kernels alone dont come as iso image. you need to install either via rpm/apt or build source code.

Re: 2.2.24 kernel

Ok,

Firstly, my link above is wrong. You want this link

http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.2/linux-2.2.24.tar.bz2

This is a full kernel and can be installed and built on a a 2.2.X series distribution.

However, exactly what are you trying to achieve. You can't just install a 2.2.X series kernel on a recent distribution. Are you looking for a Linux distribtion based on the 2.2.24 kernel or can be upgraded to 2.2.24. Or is it really a 2.4.24 kernel you're after?

You will only get an ISO of a complete linux distribution, not the kernel.

Perhaps you can give some details of why you want ot do this and also, what you have now, if anything.

Re: 2.2.24 kernel

Hi,

I want to install Redhat 6.2 (2.2.14-6.1.1 kernel) on Pentium 4 machines, with the installation CD of redhat 6.2 i cant install it on Pentium 4 machines, installation will fail giving some python error and also i guess it cant recognize the architecture.

i understand 2.2.24 has support on pentium machines. but i dont CD to install.

why i'm doing this is coz i'm very specific about the GLIBC and GCC what comes with 2.2 kernels. this is the reason why i cant upgrade to the latest kernels which will work on pentium

thanks for the responses..

looking forward for solution

thanks

Re: 2.2.24 kernel

It should install!

I would try and find an old if I were you. Perhaps something that is less likely to fail on install. Slackware would be a good example. It tends to be a bit more technical to install, but it probably is going to be less fussy about hardware it doesn't understand.

Slackware 7.0 had kernel version 2.2.13. You could install that and then upgrade to 2.2.24. It is worth noting that slackware uses vanilla Linus Torvalds kernels and therefore the upgrade should be painles. Also, it uses BSD style startup scripts. You can get Slackware 7.0 from this page.

Re: 2.2.24 kernel

Redhat definetly recognizes i386 architecture. It can go ahead with a plain i386 kernel. Can you throw more light on that python error. Try removing the python options from the installation.

Re: 2.2.24 kernel

Have you tried installing in text mode??

Re: 2.2.24 kernel

i use only text mode,

when it is suppose to display list of softwares needs to be installed, installation hangs.
