A VERY SPECIAL DAY...

has dawned upon us.
In case you have forgotton (could that be?
easy rule of thumb: last Friday in July),
let me remind you all that it is System Administrator Appreciation Day today!

http://www.sysadminday.com/

Please, promulgate this special date to your colleagues, customers, users, supervisors, or who else incessantly keeps pestering you,
and claim their deserved appreciation for the menial chores our guild of overburdened system administrators perform for them for a pittance, marooned and concealed to the public eye in cubicles, cabinets, bunkers, ducts and other cast away places, diligently 24*7*365, whose joint efforts eventually make the globe spin.
Madness, thy name is system administration

Re: A VERY SPECIAL DAY...

Grats to all ....

... but the problem is not that we (the sysadmins) may forget the day. The problem is that the uses forget it (or even never learn about it) :)

Re: A VERY SPECIAL DAY...

Yes, a special day to honour special people.

We obviously never can do it right.

- If all goes smoothly, "why the heck are we paying good money for that guy/gall to lean back and play around with whatever?"
- If things go not so smooth "why the hech are we paying good money if (s)he cannot even keep the system running decently?"

Wishing us all the mental strength to see through these commments, and enjoy our beautiful job!

Proost.

Have one on me.

Re: A VERY SPECIAL DAY...

Hi All.

I love being a cost centre without value-add to the business when everything works, but it's always "my fault" when it doesn't, especially when it's caused by an esteemed colleague somewhere on the 2nd floor who plugs a kettle into a UPS connection or someone with a mechanical digger who cuts through a buried cable in the street.

Thats why we read the BOFH and think that someday we would really love to do that....

Have a great day people. And may your pagers and mobiles be quiet (or at least quieter) today.

Regards
