ACPI IRO Holder for PCI IRQ Steering

When I run a performance optimizing program I get this result three times. I have read to reinstall the motherboard driver but I haven't a clue how to do this. Could someone please enlighten me? Also, I get a problem with a msgrv32 program where the computer hangs quite often, I dont know if they are related.

Thanks!

Vicki:

We would need to know as much info as possible about your computer model (usually on a label on the rear or bottom of the computer). If it's a 'homemade' computer, we'd need to know about the motherboard (mfgr/model/etc.).

We need to know what version of Windows you're using as well. I'm sure our first suggestion will be to apply the latest fixes/patches from www.windowsupdate.com.

Vicki,

The "ACPI IRQ Holder For PCI IRQ Steering" is one I've seen and may be a non-problem. For info see:

Re: ACPI IRO Holder for PCI IRQ Steering

Roger,
My computer is a HP Pavilion N5340 and operating system is Windows ME.

I Checked www.windowsupadte.com for update. There were none.

Re: ACPI IRO Holder for PCI IRQ Steering

Vicki:

I can't find anything at the HP website for your computer:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?product=61307тМй=en&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&os=228

so perhaps James is right. If you don't see any errors in Device Manager, maybe it's not something to be concerned about, especially if you have no other symptoms.

The chipset in your computer is an Intel 440ZXM-100. There is very little support for this chipset on Intel's website but you may want to look at these links:

BTW, if you want to work on the 'msgrv32 ' problem, please post as much of the error message(s) as you can. Thanks.

Re: ACPI IRO Holder for PCI IRQ Steering

Hello,

Disable it in Windows and then flash your BIOS and reset the BIOS to default settings.
Refer here:
How IRQs Are Assigned to PCI Devices
In Windows 95 (retail release) and OSR1, the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) assigns IRQs to PCI devices. With OSR2 and Windows 98:

if PCI bus IRQ steering is disabled in Windows, the BIOS assigns IRQs to PCI devices.

if PCI bus IRQ steering is enabled in Windows, the BIOS still assigns IRQs to PCI devices but Windows can re-assign the IRQs if need be.

In short - when IRQ steering is enabled in Windows, it has the ability to change the settings the BIOS assigned to PCI devices, although it generally does not. It's important to note here that assignment of IRQs to PCI devices, including sharing if necessary, happens even if steering is disabled in Windows.

This issue is only Win9x/WinME
Btw: The link to the BIOS has been posted earlier by Roger.

Hope this help

Re: ACPI IRO Holder for PCI IRQ Steering

Actually Latif, the link I posted doesn't seem to have a BIOS upgrade nor could I find one. Resetting the BIOS to default settings may still have merit. Also, if there is a BIOS setting for 'Plug and Play OS', it'd be interesting to know how it is set and maybe flip it to the opposite setting and re-test.

Re: ACPI IRO Holder for PCI IRQ Steering

Roger, James and Latif,
I have looked at the different website. And I have checked my computer to see if all the boxes are check right, they are all ok.
So I think James may be right.

Thanks to all.

Roger, I still have the problem with msgrv32.
I don't remember what the meassage said. Should I wait for it to happen again?

Thanks again,
Vicki

Re: ACPI IRO Holder for PCI IRQ Steering

Vicki:

Hi. Yes, when it happens again try to record what precipated it and as much of the error message as you can capture (including details). Then post them here (I think a new thread would be best at that time.)

Make a great day!
