ASCII file won't print - document format not supported

When I try to print using "lp" directly from a Unix prompt to a network printer configured with CUPS, I am getting the error :

"lp: unable to print file: client-error-document-format-not-supported".

The system is a Red Hat 7.0 server.

The type of file is "ASCII" - its a simple column formatted file -- attached if that helps.

Hello Debbie,

Your file may not be recognized by CUPS as ascii (aka text) file.

To diagnose this, try printing another file (/etc/hosts for example). If it works, you can now be sure that your ascii file is not in the right format.

If it comes from MS-DOS/Windows, try dos2unix in order to remove extra- LINEFEED and EOF marks generally added by Microsoft tools.

Otherwise, edit your file with a Linux text editor (vi, gedit, ...) and print it again.
