Account not authorize to login from this workstation

Hi,

I've a Red Hat 6.2 set up as a samba server.
It was previously running fine with certain directory restricted to a few valid users including myself.

I've been loggin in from my WinNT workstation using an account and passwd created in Red Hat.

However, recently I've reformated my WinNT workstation.
Though, my username created in the NT workstation is the same, I couldn't login to the directory that has restricted user access anymore.
It's keep giving the error 'Account not authorize to login from this workstation'.
Public access directory is still working fine.

I've done a testparm hanming 143.186.138.205
and it show allow connection from hanming to the directory I wish to connect, which I've set the valid user to hmlow(which is myself).

Can anyone kindly help?

Thanks a million.

Hi,

Did you already try to recreate your account on Linux?

Re: Account not authorize to login from this workstation

When you reinstalled Windows NT, your system ID and user ID changed even though your user name did not. There are some methods to prevent this, but at this point it is probably easier to setup your account again on the Linux side.

Han Ming,

On the Samba server, have you set your computername of your WinNT workstation be able to log on. Because in Linux you can set computernames that have access to the server... right??

hi there,
i think your problem has to do with encrypted passwords.
samba-defaults to unencrypted password after installation, but WinNT (>SP3) and Win95b & Win98 uses
encrypted passwords.
So, you have to switch to encrypted passwords on your
samba-machine or you have to change the registries
within NT (or Win9x). See /usr/doc/samba.xxx/docs/NT4_PlainPassword.reg.
good luck,
