Add Hard Disk failed

Hi,

I have a C8000 station.
I would like to add a hard disk and when I boot, I have the error following :

Failed to initialize with ENTRY_INIT status = -7

Can you help me?

It's a second hard disk...
Thanks for your help.

Re: Add Hard Disk failed

Do you boot from this new (and empty) disk?

Well, it's empty!

From the boot menu, do a

> sea ipl

to find your original boot disk.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Add Hard Disk failed

Shalom,

If you want to mirror your boot disk, try this procedure:

Re: Add Hard Disk failed

ENTRY_INIT status= -7

means there is no bootable device on the path that your primary boot path is pointing to (unless of course you specified the boot path manually)

Since you said "Add hard disk failed" I am under the impression that you are expecting the disk to come with a bootable operating system on ? If this is your expectation, it is dead wrong. If you have a mirrored boot disk, you might try booting from that mirror and then rebuild this new disk via mirroring. If there are no mirrors, I hope you have the core OS CD laying next to the workstation, because a re-installation is due.

Re: Add Hard Disk failed

Do you know if the disk is compatible with your C8000? Is it external or internal? If internal, did you set the disk jumpers correctly? If external, did you make sure the new disk has a different SCSI address from your other disks?

An incompatible disk or a duplicate disk address will make your entire system unbootable. Remove the extra disk and it should reboot OK.

Re: Add Hard Disk failed

Hi,

* Well, Have you replaced your previous boot hard disk?
* Seems from the thread that you added a new disk, but are you looking to boot the server from this newly added disk?
* Have you modified your primary boot path to this disk?

try doing 'sea ipl' to find the boot disk. and try booting from that from ISL prompt. if successful, change the primary boot path to that.

Thanks

Re: Add Hard Disk failed

My best guess, if you just added a new disk, is that the SDSI-ID of this new disk is the same as your existing boot disk.

My experience with such situations is that when 2 devices have the same SCSI-ID, none of them can be used. And that exlpains why the shystems doesn't see your boot disk anymore.

TOrsten say:

No, It's an second disk, just for the data

I don't want to do a mirror disk.

Bill Hassell say:
>>Do you know if the disk is compatible with your C8000?

Yes, I said to shop a compatible disk c8000

>>Is it external or internal?
Internal

>>If internal, did you set the disk jumpers correctly?
I don't know... In fact, I have a disk SCSI but no with 68 pins .... And the vendor give me an adapter...
On this adapter, I have a lot of jumper :
Next to pin on the adapter, I have -->
TPR
DLY
REM
LED
SNC
ID0
ID1
ID2
ID3

I don't know If I must plug my jumper...

Other information :

The first disk is pluged on third pins on ribbon cable

Re: Add Hard Disk failed

If you are able to disconnect this drive, do it and see if the server boots. If it does, more than likely, the interface adapter that your vendor gave you is to blame unless it is a dead-on-arrival drive from the beginning.
