>> add additional NICs to npar and remove from vpar.

This is not clear to me.

Are the NICs already installed in the server?

So they are always part of the nPar when booted in nPar mode.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Add NICS on npar and remove from vpar

Hi,

First: delete NICs from vpar

System is already configured and running. There are two vpars in npar1 in which we want to delete NICs like io path 4/0/9 and 4/0/10.

Need step by step procedure on software level with commands like in hpux 11.23 and hardware level like need to power off cell board or io chassis for removel of NICs.

Second: Add NICs in npar

System is already configured and running. There is npar0 in which we want to add these two NICs.

Need step by step procedure on software level with commands like in hpux 11.23 and hardware level like need to power off cell board or io chassis to add NICs in npar level.

Hope this clarify situation.

Thanks & Kind Regards,

Re: Add NICS on npar and remove from vpar

A very safe way would be to use "vparmodify" to delete the ioslots from the vPar; shutdown all vpars and power off npar1. Then remove the HBA and power back on.
Then power off npar0, insert the HBAs and power on.

A quicker way (if your OS supports OLRAD) is to power off the slots only for removing/addition of the HBAs.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Add NICS on npar and remove from vpar

As I told yu, delete the resource (slot) from vPar, shutdown all vPars and remove the card. Boot up again.

Shutdown the other nPar, insert the card and boot up. Make sure the drivers are installed.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Add NICS on npar and remove from vpar

Dear,

Thanks.

All steps. Please correct me if i am wrong.

Our HPUX version is 11.23 and vpar version is A.04.03.03 HP-UX Virtual Partitions. In this vpar version vpar must be in down state to add/delete io resources.

1. shutdown web2 (OS)

2. web1# vparmodify -p web2 -d io:0.0.9

3. check by vparstatus -v (that io deleted from web2)

4. shutdown web1 (OS)

5. Power off npar1 means power off Cell Board.
Is there any way to power off io chassis? and how can i use OLRAD feature to power off / on slots.

6. Remove io card from io chassis

7. Power on npar1

7. Shutdown OS of npar0

8. Poweroff npar0 means power off CB's

9. Install io card

10. Power on npar0

11. is there any command to add io card in npar0

Your favor in this regard is highly appreciated.

Thanks & Kind Regards,

Re: Add NICS on npar and remove from vpar

Looks good. If the partition is powered off, this means cell and i/O is powered off.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

OLAR feature. Can you please help me to find out hpux command to power off specific slot like io Path: 5/0/14.

Please clarify if we are using OLAR feature then we don't need step 4, 5 and 7. simply vparload web2.

------don't need step 4,5 and 7 OLAR feature is used---

4. shutdown web1 (OS)

5. Power off npar1 means power off Cell Board.
Is there any way to power off io chassis? and how can i use OLRAD feature to power off / on slots.

---------------

6. Remove io card from io chassis

--------don't need------
7. Power on npar1

-------

7. Shutdown OS of npar0

/////////////

If OLAR feature is used then don't need step 8 and 10. Please help us to use OLAR feature.

8. Poweroff npar0 means power off CB's

9. Install io card

10. Power on npar0

11. is there any command to add io card in npar0

Your favor in this regard is highly appreciated.
