Any reason behind the name Oracle 10g instead of 10 or 10i !

Hi,

We have been noticing that the Oracle versions as 8,8i,9,9i.
I understand that 8i means all version starting with 8.1 and 9i means starting
with 9.1

But 10g looks different from standard version naming.
Any specific reason for the letter g in 10g.

Thanks
Ezhil

G means "GRID". This is a kind of RAC upgrade.

'G' is for grid computing.

The 'i' was meant for (i)nternet. The next hype - as others have already told - is 'g' for (g)rid computing.
Yawn. We will see what is 'in' tomorrow...
