Anyone Going to HPTechForum in '09?

By popular demand (OK, one person asked me) and despite the fact that I'm not, I'm going to start my nearly annual "Who's Going" thread.

Feel free to use this as a bulletin board to organize and coordinate amongst your fellow attendees so you can all get together for a little extracurricular learning/celebrating or just meeting your fellow ITRC contributors. And, if you're not going, you can use it as a handy spot to vent about your cheap boss/company/the economy/whatever.

Re: Anyone Going to HPTechForum in '09?

Shalom Pete,

I'm considering visiting the conference because I need to be at a job interview in California a few days before.

I can't afford the conference, but may go for an expo pass and try and do a little networking.

Because I'm bored.

Because I really need something to do.

So I'm a definite Maybe.

Well, dang it!!!! You beat me to it, Pete. I was going to try to start a thread like this a little later this month!

I will be at the HPTF.

We'll (at least Rita and I) miss seeing you there, Pete.

I was hoping there might be a few more responses than this. Let's run it back up the flagpole and see.

Re: Anyone Going to HPTechForum in '09?

I will be going, and have one of the final presentation slots on Thursday afternoon...

What is really important is that folks vote for Los Lonely Boys for the closing parth :-)

Re: Anyone Going to HPTechForum in '09?

Hello,

I would love to come. Alas, budget of
my department is below zero for
non-revenue travel :(

Pity, as I am preparing a webinar on
subject "Solaris Live Upgrade versus
HP-UX Dynamic Root Disk". As always,
I will build both environments and
compare them without any bias
or prejudice.

Maybe some other time I can finally
visit HPTechForum. The way the world
economy is going, it will be around year
2040.

To all those that attend - enjoy yourself
and have mercy upon those who stay at home!

Re: Anyone Going to HPTechForum in '09?

I'm supposed to be presenting but my company activated its pandemic measures plan with the H1N1 scare and I've heard rumors that they're currently vetoing all business travel. Hope I'll make it next month.

And Pete, I'm currently at 999 points, if you give me just ONE point, I'll bribe you with a pint if we cross each other over there. :)

Thanks

Re: Anyone Going to HPTechForum in '09?

Olivier,

Sorry, couldn't give you just one - had to be three. Here's to 1002!!

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be there to collect a pint anyway, but that sure makes it even more tempting.

It's a pity that there isn't a spot for "None of the above". I don't listen to any of those groups and none of them appeal to me at all. Pity.

Re: Anyone Going to HPTechForum in '09?

LLB has one song I know; Smash Mouth comes in with about the same; 3rd Eye Blind is a total blank.

I'm with you Patrick - there is nothing there I want to spend a night listening to. How sad! And considering it's this late in the schedule gives you a hint that these aren't top groups (for me anyway). Remember when they had Jimmy Buffet and Hootie. Even that "unknown" band who played all the great oldies dance songs would be better for me.
No offense to the groups suggested. But I need: None of the above.

See ya there !

Geez - this is Las Vegas after all. I think they should have Barry Manilow, Elbert Humperdink and a whole herd of Elvis impersonators!

Re: Anyone Going to HPTechForum in '09?

LLB is three brothers with a "Texican" flavor (think Stevie Ray Vaughn). Probably the most "bluesy" of the choices and frankly I just really want to see them live. One of those bands that has several songs you will recognize but didn't know you know. Their best work is fairly recent. They have 15 songs on my Zen.

Smash Mouth has had several hits in movie soundtracks. They have a harder sound but still within reach of most listeners. Think of Sugar Ray with more "Guitar Hero" moments. Think They have 7 songs on my Zen.

Third Eye Blind had their biggest hit in '97 with "Semi-Charmed Life". If you saw Matchbox 20 last year TEB would fit well on the same bill. They currently have nothing on my Zen as I am fixing MP3 tags but lets say they rate 5 songs.

Any of the three will be a great show. I would just like to see a band I think is still rising.

Re: Anyone Going to HPTechForum in '09?

Bob,

You obviously know your groups - hey if you ever get tired of HP-n you could always do some DJ-n.

I still don't care for the groups offered, none are my taste and I'm really a music lover with a fairly eclectic in my tastes, everything from Rock Me Amedaus to Kenny Chesny, some Motown, to Queen. Oh yeah !!
But these boys - Nah....

Maybe I'll catch a show with something I like.

Later,
Rita

....Elbert Humperdink - Pete you crack me up !!

So instead of NOT voting at all, we should vote for the group we dislike the least? ;)

No Patrick! You should vote for the band *I* want to see live the most ;-) As a Chicago boy I believe in "vote early, vote often!"

This Los Lonely Boys would be interesting, but this year I cannot make it. I like the music of Stevie Ray, and blues. Maybe next year...
