Anyone know or heard anything about Suse Enterprise 10 support?

How long is it typically before HP supports a new Enterprise Linux release on blades/SAN/etc?

i.e. drivers, SAN blessed, utility-mish-mash, etc.

I am new to Linux as an Enterprise OS so I don't have a feel for the delta between release and Big-vendor-like-HP support.

Re: Anyone know or heard anything about Suse Enterprise 10 support?

Shalom,

Since Suse is pretty much based on open source code, they can't legally charge you for the software. They make their money on support as does RedHat and other vendors.

They do a reasonable job at support, but I think they lack the global strength and size of the bigger organizations.

It is possible to get Linux support form HP in a form that will submit certain problems to the Linux vendor, such as bug discovery and special fixes. The advantage of going with HP is there is always somebody in the world awake with the skills necessary to solve almost any kind of issue.

If you choose HP hardware, you get the additonal support of integrated support when its uncertain whether a problem is hardware or software. No finger pointing, the call goes to another team.

I've got over a decade of work with the HP support team. They are some of the finest people I've ever worked with. It may not be the best priced support, but I believe it is the best.

The plan is for HP to provide Response Center support for SLES 10 upon first shipment.

I don't have a date, but my understanding is that Novelle plans to begin shipment in the next few months. HP Response Center specialists are receiving update training on SLES 10 now.
