Simpler Navigation for Servers and Operating Systems - Please Update Your Bookmarks
Completed: a much simpler Servers and Operating Systems section of the Community. We combined many of the older boards, so you won't have to click through so many levels to get at the information you need. Check the consolidated boards here as many sub-forums are now single boards.
If you have bookmarked forums or discussion boards in Servers and Operating Systems, we suggest you check and update them as needed.

Authentication in sendmail

How can I disable authentication in sendmail in HP-UX 10.20?
Thanks a lot

Re: Authentication in sendmail

Sergio, in /etc/inetd.conf, comment out ident (or in some cases auth) and run #inetd -c. In your /etc/mail/ file find the timeout for identd and set to zero, then recycle sendmail.

O Timeout.ident=0

#/sbin/init.d/sendmail stop
#/sbin/init.d/sendmail start

identd is a server which implements the TCP/IP proposed standard IDENT
user identification protocol as specified in the RFC 1413 document. identd
operates by looking up specific TCP/IP connections and returning the user name
of the process owning the connection.

Re: Authentication in sendmail

If this server is on the public Internet, I strongly urge you not to stop authentication.

smtp is already a spam relay begging to happen.

I have spent three hard weeks securing my servers and keeping them from being mis-used.
