Backup to remote tape library
I have a Surestore E 2x20 DLT lib.
I am only using 10 of the slots on the lib. I want to backup another server to this device. How can I setup the device as a remote tape device on the new server?
Thanks,
Craig

Re: Backup to remote tape library
There is mechanism for setting up another device file so that it will access a remote device.
You can use fbackup to access a remote tape device with the system:/dev/rmt/?m device syntax.
If you have some sort of backup product like Omniback or Legato Networker then they generally support backing up a machine across the network, although this generally requires a client license and you have to install software on the remote machine.

Re: Backup to remote tape library
Do I have to setup anything special on the server that has the device in order for the remote to work?

Re: Backup to remote tape library
If you are using fbackup, you have to /etc/hosts.equiv or .rhosts set up, I believe, so that the 'r' commands will work. See the fbackup man page for more info.
If you are using any other software, then see the documentation for what is specifically required.
