Blade Enclosure Status Changes to Degraded Daily

Hi there.

Every day one of our blade enclosures sends out the HP AlertMail that the status has changed to Degraded, one minute later we get another one to say its back to ok.

Does anyone know why this would happen? There are no alerts visible alerts for any of the servers in the enclosure and the overview looks fine.

Here's the emails.

EVENT (06 Nov 03:50): Enclosure Status has changed to: Degraded

Enclosure, "SY-BLADE-49-03", has changed from status OK to Degraded.

This could be caused by a failed component such as the midplane assembly, fan, or power supply. Please check the following locations to determine what may have failed: power supply LEDs, fan LEDs, and switch module health LEDs. If a redundant Onboard Administrator is present, ensure that their firmware versions are the same. Check the Health Summary screen on the LCD and the Onboard Administrator user interface for any error indications.

You may receive other alerts regarding the specific nature of the failure in addition to this one.

Running OA version 2.51

This is starting to happen more frequently, around 2-3 times a day now.

Usually reseating the OA (and OA sleeve) will help to strange notifications.

Re: Blade Enclosure Status Changes to Degraded Daily

I called up HP and they suggested to update our firmware and iLO's to the latest version. I'll do that and see how it goes, if not ill reseat the OA.

Re: Blade Enclosure Status Changes to Degraded Daily

Try updating your iLO's of your servers to 1.79 and then updating your Blade OA's to 2.60 . I did this and it fixed the issue.

Re: Blade Enclosure Status Changes to Degraded Daily

I'm having the same issue, my ILO's are all up to 1.80, and my OA Firmware is at 2.60. Is reseating the OA non-disruptive to the servers in the chassis? Or will this bring all the servers down?

Thanks!

Re: Blade Enclosure Status Changes to Degraded Daily

Upgrade the ilo Firmware to 1.81, and do it NOW!

1.80 is really, really, REALLY buggy.

Before you know it, all the fans in the c7000 will be running at 79% or more, and it'll sound like you're contracting to stress-test Rolls Royce Jet engines in your server room...
(When that happens you may have to power down the entire c7000 to reset it)

Re: Blade Enclosure Status Changes to Degraded Daily

In general removing the OA modules will not affect the servers but will drop all the iLO connections.

If you remove both OA modules all the FANS will spin up to max speed because they lose their brain so they go into a fail safe mode which is to run at full speed so nothing overheats.
