CIFS-mounted directory, different users, different view

I have a CIFS mounted directory on HP-UX which is mounted from a Windows box), which two users (both are members of Users group only and are not present on the remote server).

Once can do an "ll" of the directory and see it presented, the other cannot even see it. I do a "cifslist" and the working user is present on the list. What do I need to check to get the other user accessing this directory?

Re: CIFS-mounted directory, different users, different view

Shalom,

On the CIFS server.

1) Check the user group permissions. The shared directory may need to be in a group that the two unix users share. We don't have your security= setting, but if you are using security=user in smb.conf, permissions on the shared folder.

2) Check the event log on the windows box for clues as to where we should go on this.

Re: CIFS-mounted directory, different users, different view

This is the CIFS Client, not the CIFS Server so there is no smb.conf (in relation to the reply above).

This appears to be a permissions error, so it would appear that on the Windows server the authenticated user for userA (can access share) has a user or group access control entry for the directory, but userB does not. I assume that userB authenticates with a different username (cifslogin).

Bottom line is that if both users can cifslogin successfully then the permissions for those cifslogin usernames must be different on the Windows server.
